Intercultural Practitioner Certificate
This certificate represents advanced knowledge of intercultural practice as indicated by completion of a broad curriculum and some accredited graduate work in courses and workshops offered by ICI and the organizations with which it collaborates. Holders of this certificate will have received significant exposure to intercultural topics and will have demonstrated graduate-level ability by completing one ICI-sponsored course for credit. The certificate requires the completion of the equivalent of 15 days of additional ICI-related training beyond the Foundations Certificate.
Requirements: Complete the following learning activities:
- Obtain the Intercultural Foundations Certificate.
- Attend an additional 5 days of training at SIIC and 10 additional days of training offered by ICI, such as other SIIC workshops, Master of Arts in Intercultural Relations (MAIR) courses, or Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) seminars. In addition, training gained from other organizations that collaborate with ICI (e.g., the University of Krems in Austria) may also be used to satisfy part of the requirements.
or
- Attend one full SIIC summer session composed of 13 days of training plus 6 evening programs.
or
- Serve as a SIIC intern.
- Earn graduate credit for at least one 5-day SIIC workshop, MAIR course, or the IDI Qualifying Seminar.
After you have completed the learning activities, submit:
- A list of each activity (workshop, course, evening program, etc.) that you are using to meet the requirements of the certificate. In the case of workshops or courses, please include copies of the Certificates of Completion; for each evening program, write a short paragraph that describes the event and its relevance to your intercultural learning.
- An unofficial copy of a transcript showing graduate credit for at least one SIIC or other ICI-sponsored course.
- A copy of your current resume.
- A report (5-10 pages) indicating how the training you received expands your ability as an intercultural practitioner. The purpose of this report is to allow you to reflect on the application of your learnings to your work or life. For example, you might describe a training program or some other project you designed and explain how it made use of knowledge gained in your learning activities.
