Internship and Volunteer Opportunities

 

ICI offers internship and volunteer opportunities for individuals that are interested in the intercultural field. Many opportunities exist for those seeking practical experience and/or academic credit as part of their studies at Portland State University, University of Portland, and the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. We also welcome individuals from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds to apply for our internships.

 

The selection of interns is made after an application process and an interview with one of the internship coordinators. There are a variety of tasks, responsibilities, and projects that may be available, depending on your skills and interests. This work is unpaid; however, we do offer the opportunity to attend our programs as compensation.

Social Media Internship

 

 

Objective:  To improve ICI's presence on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, and to give interns the ability to participate in and manage social media marketing initiatives. Ideal candidates will be computer savvy and be passionate about engaging our community through social media.

 

Potential Responsibilities: 

 

  • Research and archive relevant materials
  • Monitor and post on social media sites, forums, and blogs
  • Online outreach and promotion of ICI programs and products
  • Website and social media optimization
  • Analyzing site analytics
  • Designing promotional materials

Marketing / Outreach Internship

 

 

 

Objective: To assist the manager of marketing with marketing and outreach activities that result in strong enrollment numbers for our programs and an increased presence in the local community. The ideal candidate will have interest in the intercultural field and the ability to initiate, plan, and implement their own creative ideas in a professional manner. 

 

Potential Responsibilities:

 

  • Assisting with mailing campaigns

  • Designing promotional materials

  • Tracking marketing material effectiveness

  • In-person marketing at conferences and events

  • Researching and updating marketing plan and conference schedules

  • Coordinating local outreach events at colleges and universities

  • Acquiring contact information from interested parties and doing follow-ups

Film / Photography Internship

 

Objective: To improve ICI's visual presence through the mediums of film and photography. This internship is for experienced or aspiring film and photography professionals who have interest in the intercultural field and would like to build their portfolios.

 

Potential Responsibilities:

 

  • Filming activities at ICI programs

  • Coordinating film interviews

  • Using Final Cut Pro to edit and create professional quality promotional videos

  • Photographing ICI events

  • Editing and archiving photos for use in social media and marketing

 

Duration:  Peak filming times are during the month of July, and late August/early September. Internship duration can be discussed with the internship coordinator.

Event Planning 

 

 

 

Objective: Collaborate with Executive Director and Events Director to design and maintain a competent infrastructure that will support over 500 attendees and all event activities from beginning to end.

 

Potential Responsibilities:

 

  • Solicit and secure in-kind contributions from new and continuing community partners

  • Create and maintain logistics spreadsheets and schedules for banquets, catering, community donations, and other activities calendars

  • Help coordinate volunteer activities for move days and registration days

  • On-site banquet coordinator for some evening events

International Education Programs

 

 

Objective: To assist with the successful coordination of activities during our international programs, and to serve as a guide to program participants.

 

Potential Responsibilities:

 

  •  Leading students on excursions and activities in the Portland area

  •  Conversing in English with non-native English speakers

  •  Assisting program managers and instructors with class or activity preparation

  •  Ensuring the overall health and safety of program participants

 

Duration:  Programs typically take place in late August/early September, interested parties would need to be available for an orientation that takes place a few weeks prior.

  •  Research and identify new materials

  •  Communication and service to library patrons

Previous Deliverables Included:

 

  •  Market research and development of marketing plans

  •  Assessing educational outcomes and student satisfaction

  •  Creation of promotional videos

  •  Simplifying access to information through more effective web design

  •  Design and management of international education programs
