The Haslam College of Business at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville invites applications and nominations for a newly created position of Director of International Programs & Study Abroad.

 

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs & Student Affairs, the newly created position of Director of International Programs & Study Abroad (IPSA) unit will provide fresh vision, strategic growth, expansion, and management of global partnerships, create and sustain international engagement programs, and manage student mobility through study abroad experiences (e.g., semester/year long, academic plug and play options, faculty-led programs). The new director will provide strategic leadership direction in developing a vibrant, new student engagement and success unit focused on enabling students in the Haslam College of Business to achieve higher value-added educational outcomes, employment, career progression opportunities, and to develop their leadership potential and capabilities. The new Director will build on existing global partnerships and external international relationships to create a new portfolio of multi-continent international programs and services that will assist students in clarifying their study abroad opportunities, identify appropriate international academic exchange opportunities, and pursue international internship/community service opportunities. Consistent with the benchmark measures at peer and aspirational business schools, the expectations for the new IPSA Director will be to positively influence key student engagement and success drivers and outcomes such as: students studying abroad and/or possessing international experiences at graduation, students completing high quality international internships, establishment of high quality, multi-continent programs.

The VPGE is a senior member of the Provost’s staff and will be responsible for carrying out the University’s international agenda and strategic plan for globalization. The University seeks a creative, entrepreneurial and experienced professional to provide leadership for a dedicated professional staff and the University’s global educational initiatives. The VPGE will lead efforts to develop, maintain and enhance international partnerships. Reporting to the Provost, s/he will be responsible for working with university senior leadership, college deans, and faculty to develop new initiatives and strengthen existing ones. The Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to helping people acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world. Founded in 1947, CIEE is a worldwide leader in international education and exchange programs operating across 41 countries.

 

CIEE is currently seeking an Academic Director of Intercultural Learning to develop, facilitate, and evaluate the high-impact intercultural learning for CIEE.  Reporting to the Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Academic Director will design face-to-face and online intercultural learning experiences that enrich our study abroad programs and align with the CIEE Philosophy on Teaching & Learning. The Academic Director will also measure and report out on intercultural learning outcomes; develop and provide training and support for CIEE resident staff and instructors; and collaborate with teams across CIEE to achieve our organization’s strategic goals and to maximize student learning. 

 

A Master’s degree in international education, intercultural communication, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or related field is required along with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in design and delivery of intercultural and experiential learning.   Knowledge of the Intercultural Development Continuum and a commitment to become an Intercultural Development Inventory Qualified Administrator is required.  In-depth knowledge of and experience working with cultures and processes of U.S. academic institutions are required.
