  • clear educational goals that are compatible with the program philosophy
  • sensitivity to intercultural situations
  • ability to operate effectively in small learning groups

ROLLING ADMISSIONS:

The idea of rolling admissions is that you can apply for and be admitted to our program throughout the year. After you are admitted, you will begin the program at the next starting date, either in January or July. We will need time to review your application and complete the admission process so that you will be ready to start at our next residency — therefore, you will need to have your completed application packet submitted to the MAIR office at the University of the Pacific in time to participate. Priority admissions deadlines are set for each starting date; contact us for the next priority deadlines.

Responses to these questions are part of the online application for the MA in Intercultural Relations. These questions are provided so that you can prepare your answers before completing the online application.

  1. Describe for us the experiences you have had—personal, professional and educational—that motivated you to apply to this intercultural program.

  2. The field of intercultural relations covers many areas from diversity training to foreign student advising, from intercultural conflict resolution to cross-cultural healthcare. What is your area of special interest?

  3. Please give us a specific example of a time when you used your intercultural understanding in resolving a conflict, overcoming prejudice in yourself or others, facilitating an intercultural team or class, managing a multicultural workforce, etc.

  4. We want you to reflect on the challenges you may face doing graduate work.
    Tell us about:

  • the challenges you might experience from working independently
  • the challenges you might face working closely with your fellow students during the residencies
  • the strategies you will use to deal with these challenge
  1. As you think about the future, what do you hope to be able to do as a result of completing your Master of Arts in intercultural relations?
