Housing

Participants are housed in comfortable residence halls on Reed’s campus. The modern residence halls feature same-sex shared bathrooms with full showers. Rooms feature a bed with standard bedding, a desk, closet space for storage, and a large window with a view of the surrounding area. Double rooms will have two beds in one large room divided by a partition wall. Non air-conditioned rooms will be equipped with fans.  Linen service includes a pillow and a case, two sheets, a blanket, a bedspread, towels, washcloths, soap, a cup, and paper towels. If you are sensitive to noise, we suggest bringing earplugs. We also like to let our participants know that the sheets provided are only flat sheets, many participants pack a set of twin sheets for added comfort.

Check-in Procedure

Registration begins at 2pm the day before your session begins. At registration you will receive a swipe card that serves as both your meal card on campus and as a card for access to your dorm/classrooms. You will also receive a key to your specific dorm room. During your stay, we ask that you keep your dorm key in a very safe place because replacement keys are $75 each. At registration you will also receive a participant binder that contains all the printed schedules you will need for workshops and evening programs, as well as a map of campus and other important information. The last item you will receive at registration is your nametag. Not only are the nametags an important part of the culture of the institute, they also identify you as a SIIC participant to campus security and other conference attendees.

Check-out Procedure

Check-out time is 10am, the morning after your session ends. You are welcome to leave your luggage at the SIIC Office until you are ready to depart for your flight. We thank you in advance for vacating your room by 10am - we have a very short amount of time, and small amount of staff that work hard to get these rooms cleaned and ready for the next incoming participant. We really appreciate your help with this!

We ask that you drop your room key in the key drop-boxes located in the first floor lounge or stairwell of your dorm building – do not leave your key in your room. Access cards need not be returned, you may keep it as a souvenir, or toss it.
