As we enter our 43nd year, we are hoping to expand our programs and offer more scholarships to our participants. ICI is a self-supporting, 501(c)3 organization and relies substantially on the generous gifts of the community. Last year, we were able to give over 50 scholarships to both domestic and international participants who would not otherwise have been able to attend SIIC. Below you will find information about our scholarship program, as well as be able to read testimonials given by our scholarship recipients.
Scholarships for Intercultural Competence
Thanks to the generosity of our benefactors, ICI offers an intercultural development scholarship program that invites qualified professionals to attend the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication (SIIC). We mainly focus on diverse communities with limited access to professional intercultural development, as well as regions with a particular need for greater global understanding, but with inadequate funding to support it.
Our goal is to educate individuals in the necessary theory and practice to enable them to apply their intercultural learning in their own workplaces, whether healthcare, social services, government agencies, NGOs, or higher education.
Your contribution allows us to support the participation of those who are:
- Working in developing countries
- Contributing services to underfunded agencies
- Bringing a diversity of backgrounds to the Institute
We ask for your help in supporting these important scholarships, and our mission of fostering an awareness and appreciation of cultural difference and global citizenship.

Scholarship recipient testimonials
This unique experience allowed me to deepen my understanding of theories and models by living them daily in the SIIC ‘living laboratory
I had an amazing experience, it felt like what the future will be like in the present.
I had the chance to participate in a course that was called ‘Turning Intercultural Theory into Practice’ with Mary Meares. As a Hungarian citizen it was a great opportunity for me to learn about intercultural communication in an international setting. I had the chance to get to know a lot of people who visited the course with various aims and background. Thank you for this wonderful and useful experience!
This institute is truly needed and is an amazing opportunity to learn, share and grow. I know this is just the beginning of my journey. Thank you so much!
SIIC is an amazing gathering of people who share a common interest in making our world more inclusive, and who appreciate the diversity that our lives and cultures bring into the world we live in.
SIIC was a renaissance for me, allowing me to see myself in a new light as an intercultural educator. The faculty give their hearts to the students!
